When you look at the countries where the baklava is famous, you could easily understand that there is a strong relationship with Ottoman Empire ? All of these countries are old parts of Ottoman Empire and some of them are neighbors. Then it is not very difficult to accept that baklava is a Turkish invention. Baklava has always been a special place for Turkish bairams, weddings and celebrations. Also for Ramadan, it is an indispensable dessert for iftaree (evening meal during Ramazan) menu. And today we could tell about a place where the baklava is made best. I am talking about Gaziantep in Turkey and “Antep baklava”. We, Turkish people, have a big difficulty to understand how some nations claim that the baklava is from their kitchen. Even in Turkey , someone from Ankara or Istanbul can not claim that any other city has better baklavas than Gaziantep . Because if something belongs to anywhere it belongs to there. We cannot change this reality. For example all famous baklava sellers in Ankara , Istanbul , Antalya and all big cities of Turkey are also from Gaziantep .
By the way please do not mix the Turkish baklava with the things sold by the name of baklava in American supermarkets. I have been always talking about the “Turkish baklava” from the beginning. First of all you could not sell a real Turkish baklava in a box placed on the shelves of a market. The people who have tasted the real baklava understand what I am try to say. And I suggest to other people “wherever you are, find a shop that sells daily Turkish baklava and taste the best dessert in this world or come to Turkey and we could have a chance to serve you”…
